Gummies! Who doesn't love these? I know my kids do, me on the other hand. I am not that crazy about the sugar, red #40 and all the other synthetic stuff they put in the conventional ones. So why not make your own guilt-free version?
I know, I know it sounds time-consuming and intimidating. It SO isn't any of those things. All you need is fresh squeezed juice, honey, gelatin and gummy molds. Don't worry if you don't have the fancy molds, you can use an ice tray instead.
Here it goes.....
1/3 cup of any kind of juice (I used grapefruit and carrot)
2 tablespoons of grass-fed gelatin I like this one
2 tablespoons of raw honey (or whatever sugar you like) **do not give to babies under 1 if it is honey
1 drop of pure essential oil (I used grapefruit with the grapefruit juice and orange with the carrot)
1 syringe ***Normally the molds come with one, but my kids played with it and I have no clue where it went. So what do you do? Improvise of course! I just used an old syringe from a cough medicine bottle.
Mix the juice, gelatin, and honey into sauce pan. Whisk together (off heat) till there are no lumps, it will be a thick consistency.
When done mixing put on top of the stove and slowly stir till it becomes a liquid. This is when I add 1 drop of essential oil just to give it some extra flavor.
Place the molds on a cookie sheet for easier transfer to the fridge.
When the mixture is a smooth liquid you can transfer to the molds with the syringe. I let my toddler do this part, she loves doing it and she takes even more pride in the end results knowing "she did it."
Now, all you do it pop it in the fridge for 30 mins.
When they are done you simply push them out of the molds and enjoy!
*Tip...gummies store better in the refrigerator in a sealed container.
