Along with eating healthy, living a green lifestyle is very important to me. One of my favorite Indian Proverbs is something that I truly feel passionate about and try to live by every day.
"We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
I don't know about you but when I heard that it really hit home for me. I was always green before I had kids but when I did have my daughters everything became about them and their futures.
Why not care about the condition of our plant and how we leave it? By no means am I 100% waste free, like I wish I could be but lets face it. Its tough in general to live an eco friendly life let alone trying to live "green" in a rural town in a not very progressive State. (Sorry TN, I do love ya but you got a little ways to go.)
With these small improvements I am able to work on it, slowly but surly and I can rest my head at night a little bit easier. Not to mention its a way to save money since your not repeatedly buying things, but instead reusing. So, here are a few of my favorites.
These babies not only cut your drying time down by 1/3 (that helps on your electric bill by the way) they also help with static and wrinkles. Normal dryer sheets, not so much and they are laced with so many toxic chemicals that they don't even list them on the box. Gasp! Yes you heard me right, look at the box next time. They direct you to their website and they don't make it easy to find. So instead what I do to add a little fragrance to mine. Just add 2-3 drops of your favorite essential oils to one or two balls. It will give your clothes a little hint of freshness and viola! Trust me. You won't ever miss what you were using before.

Think about if everyone had their own reusable straw, how much plastic that would save! Plus they look neat. I get comments on them all the time. You could even go as far as I do and bring them out to eat with you. That sure is a conversation starter for anyone else dining with you.

All of us use them. We put fresh herbs, veggies or fruit in them to transport them back home from the store, only to throw them away moments later. These are reusable, washable mesh baggies. They also double as laundry bags to help wash your delicates or baby socks etc.

I pack lunches for my husband as a way to save money and also be healthier. But I was throwing away plastic sandwich and snack bags on the daily. It was breaking my heart and I thought there has to be a better way. There is, I bought these a little over a year ago and I love them! I use them for everything and honestly could not live without them. Plus think about the money you save by NOT buying those darn plastic baggies every other month.
It's small things like these that help us become a little bit more responsible with our constant output of waste. Just image if you chose to change even just one of these steps in our daily life. What a hug difference it would make for our children and grandchildrens future.
